Comprehensive Clinical Medical Assistant

The program is a comprehensive, across-the-board, study of duties and responsibilities expected of Clinical Medical Assistants with emphasis on the clinical duties students will be required to perform in the workplace rather than a pure focus on the clerical tasks (though those are covered as well). Clinical duties may include-

  • taking and recording vitals

  • recording medical histories

  • preparing patients for examination

  • assisting minor surgery

  • drawing blood and collecting specimens/samples

  • perform EKG

  • glucose and cholesterol testing

  • administering medications

  • taking anthropocentric measurements

  • recording temperatures

  • urinary catheterization (male and female)

  • minor medical procedures under direction of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

  • administrative duties (scheduling, maintaining medical records, as well as billing & coding for insurance purposes)

The Comprehensive Clinical Medical Assistant Program (CMA) prepares students with classroom and laboratory theories to work in healthcare. Students will learn the clinical and administrative aspects of the program and how to assist healthcare professionals, including : Physicians, Nurses, Podiatrists, Chiropractors, and other healthcare providers. CMAs provides quality patient care and the functionality related to thee clinical aspects of a medical office. Instruction topics include basic human anatomy, medical terminology, initial and routine laboratory procedures, basic pharmacology, administering topical, oral, intramuscular medication, and obtaining/recording vital signs. Our program includes the technical aspects of Phlebotomy ( blood and specimens collections) and the Electrocardiogram ( 12-Lead EKG and the cardiac life cycle ). Students will utilize SimChart, an interactive electronic health record system that ensures students will have the necessary charting skills to be successful in any medical office setting. After completion of the program, student may find work in a variety of medical facilities providing patient care. Medical assisting is one of the fastest growing careers in healthcare.
